Frequently Asked Questions
When will a jailbreak be available for the latest Kindle firmware?
If your device is not yet supported, please check back regularly for updates. As soon as a safe jailbreak is available, it will be announced on this site and the official guide will be updated.
Can I downgrade my Kindle's firmware?
Downgrading is only possible if your Kindle is already jailbroken. There is no official method to downgrade on a stock (unjailbroken) Kindle.
How do I jailbreak my Kindle?
How do I install KUAL (Kindle Unified Application Launcher)?
Copy the Update_KUALBooklet*.bin
file to your Kindle’s root folder, safely eject, then choose “Update Your Kindle” in settings.
KUAL or KOReader isn’t opening, or I get an error after updating my Kindle. What should I do?
Make sure you have the correct version for your firmware. Some updates require a KUAL hot‑fix, and KOReader has different builds for different firmware. See the
KOReader page for help.
How can I prevent my Kindle from automatically updating?
Enable Airplane Mode. Advanced users sometimes fill storage or use scripts, but Airplane Mode is the safest option.
Do I need an Amazon account linked to my Kindle to jailbreak?
Yes for WinterBreak and most current methods. Some legacy methods did not require registration.
Can I jailbreak a blacklisted or deregistered Kindle?
Only certain firmware builds are supported (e.g., LanguageBreak, WatchThis). Unsupported devices must wait for a new exploit.
Will jailbreaking erase my books or highlights?
No. Your personal content is untouched.
Can I remove the jailbreak later?
Yes—perform a factory reset to restore stock firmware.
Will jailbreaking void my warranty?
Potentially. Proceed at your own risk.
Will my Amazon account be banned for jailbreaking?
No bans are known; just avoid mentioning mods to Amazon support.
Can I still use the Amazon store and Kindle features after jailbreaking?
Yes—standard Kindle features continue to work.
